Fallout new vegas vault 11 questions *spoilers*?

iv been to vault 11 and stuff and found about how there needed to be a sacrifice for the vaukt computer not to kill every1, but y?? y did it want the sacrifices?! also, did any one else notice that there 4 dead boides at the entrance, not 5?? hmmmm
