Why do people think the term half-caste is ok?

It is a racial slur and it offends me when someone uses it it also saddens me that those that use it do not want to be offensive but deem it an acceptable way to describe someone is it because we mixed race people are not reconised as a race i am cled as black when i am just as white as i am black
