How is hanukkah celebrated?

How is it different from christmas and other religions? What kinds of social exchanges occur between members of the family during the holiday? (symbolic or material gifts, hugs, kisses, special rituals or salutations) Are there any comparisons between people? These are standards/stereotypes people hold against each other. For instance, role expectations society has of males, females, children, and the elderly. Do people talk about college attended, types of jobs they occupy, salaries, grades, who people date, or marry, the car people drive, the house people live in, body size (diet), jewelry, clothes, and cooking styles, etc...
