The King's Daughter?

Ok.There was a king and there was a daughter.The king held a party in his huge castle.He has a river full of crocodiles.The king asked "Who dares to cross this river will mary my daughter".Suddently the king heard a splash from the river and he turned to look at it.A guy was swimming quickly to the other side of the river.So the question is,why did he choose to jump into the river?
