Was uranium chosen as a fuel for nuclear energy because it produced plutonium for use in nuclear weapons?

well to have a nuclear reaction whether for a bomb or for electrical reasons there needs to be a certain type of atom that is unstable. uranium was used because it is the easiest element to get a nuclear reaction from because of the unstable and large atom. plutonium and all the elements after uranium are synthetic.
